  3.     If GH insufficiency is an isolated pituitary hormonal problem, birth weight is characteristically normal and the early postnatal course is uneventful. A diminished growth velocity becomes obvious towards the end of the first year of life as the hormonal-dependent childhood phase of growth fails to take over from the nutrition-dependent infantile phase.
